ANATOMIZE

A tessellation made of a 12-sided radial scissor mechanism. Challenging the simple and geometric movement of the scissors, the design is comprised of overlapping flower petal shapes, so the movement appears fluid and organic. The partially engraved acrylic creates intricate patterns of transparency and opacity as the tessellation opens and closes. This design can fulfill many functions dependent on the scale- here it is modeled as a shading pavilion, allowing the user the control sunlight and enjoy the delicate shadows.
